SLCPD Announces Charges Filed in Critical Injury, Hit and Run Crash

SALT LAKE CITY — Today, the Salt Lake City Police Department announced the district attorney’s office filed six charges against a 40-year-old man in connection to a critical injury crash that occurred on Mother’s Day 2024 in the Foothill/Sunnyside neighborhood.

Chase W. Pollock is charged with two counts of aggravated assault resulting in serious bodily injury, one count of failure to remain at the scene of a crash involving serious injury, one count of speeding, one count of unlawfully driving on the left side of the road, and one count of failure to obey a traffic control device.

This investigation started at 4:58 p.m. on Sunday, May 12, 2024, when SLC911 received multiple calls about a crash involving two SUVs at the intersection of 1300 South 2100 East.

Pollock is accused of driving at a high rate of speed, entering the intersection, and running a red light.

Pollock crashed into a white Audi. The Audi spun several times before coming to a rest in a nearby parking lot.

Pollock’s SUV traveled an additional 370 feet from the intersection after the crash.

When his SUV came to a stop, Pollock is accused of getting out of his SUV and running from the scene and changing shirts.

Paramedics took both men in the Audi to the hospital, the driver most critically.

During their investigation, Salt Lake City Police detectives determined Pollock’s speed to be 92 miles per hour at impact.

Pollock remains in a medical facility.

No additional details about this case are available for release.

Charges are only allegations, and every arrested person is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.

The Salt Lake City Police Department is not the custodian of record for jail booking photos. Utah Code 17-22-30 mostly prohibits the release of jail booking photos. Generally, a jail booking photo can only be released by the custodian of record after a conviction or when law enforcement determines the person is a fugitive or an imminent threat to a person or public safety. In Salt Lake City, the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office is the custodian of record for jail booking photos.

The Salt Lake City Police Department’s Collision Analysis and Reconstruction (CAR) Unit, which investigates deadly or critical injury crashes, is part of a multi-jurisdictional task force examining the most serious crashes throughout the Salt Lake Valley. SLCPD CAR detectives are highly skilled and trained in collision examination, speed analysis, vehicle dynamics, occupant kinematics, scene photography, surveying equipment, crash scene mapping, evidence collection, and computer-aided drawing programs. They respond to scenes, identify, and collect evidence, analyze it, and present it for prosecution, managing cases from start to finish. SLCPD CAR detectives are also part of the multi-jurisdictional CAR Team, which includes law enforcement from the Salt Lake City Police Department and several other Salt Lake Valley agencies, ensuring thorough investigations of crashes involving serious physical injuries or death.
