SLCPD Seeks Tips to Help Locate Vehicle in Deadly Hit-and-Run

SALT LAKE CITY — Detectives assigned to the Salt Lake City Police Departments’ Collision Analysis & Reconstruction (CAR) Team are asking for the community’s help locating the car involved in a deadly hit and run crash that killed 44-year-old Vanessa David.

This investigation started at 8:29 p.m. on Friday, October 13, 2023, when SLC911 received reports of a traffic crash involving a pedestrian on Redwood Road at approximately 200 South.

Officers responded and found the woman, deceased, in a northbound lane of Redwood Road.

Witnesses told officers the car that hit the woman – as she crossed east on Redwood Road –then continued northbound. The car was last seen entering the eastbound onramp to I-80.

Based on evidence at the scene, as well as video surveillance, detectives are looking for a brown 2008 Honda Civic with skull stickers in the back window and Utah license plate V40 7JU on the rear of the car.

The front end of the car will have damage.

The CAR Team is a multi-jurisdictional crash team that investigates crashes involving serious physical injuries or death. Members of the CAR Team receive specialized training in collision examination, speed analysis, vehicle dynamics, occupant kinematics, scene photography, surveying equipment, crash scene mapping, evidence collection and computer aided drawing programs.

The CAR Team includes law enforcement from the Salt Lake City Police Department and several other Salt Lake Valley law enforcement agencies.
