SLCPD Investigating Deadly Hit-and-Run Crash on Redwood Road

SALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake City Police Department is investigating a deadly hit-and-run crash along Redwood Road.

This investigation started at 10:56 p.m. on Friday, October 20, 2023, when SLC911 received a 9-1-1 call about a person on the ground near 1130 South Redwood Road.

The 9-1-1 caller reported the victim, an adult man, had critical injuries.

Salt Lake City police officers, firefighters, and Gold Cross Ambulance arrived and found the man dead on scene.

Detectives believe the man was walking in the road when a car, traveling south on Redwood Road, hit him.

The driver did not stop.

The identity of the driver, and the make and model of their car, is not known.

The car is likely to have front-end and windshield damage.

Detectives believe the driver continued south on Redwood Road immediately after the crash.

Anyone with information on this case is urged to call the Salt Lake City Police Department.

The driver is also urged to turn themselves in immediately. Either they, or their attorney, can contact our detectives by calling 801-799-3000.

During the investigation, officers closed Redwood Road from approximately Indiana Avenue to California Avenue. All roads reopened around 6 a.m. on October 21, 2023.

This crash marks the 18th traffic-related fatality in Salt Lake City for 2023.

The Crash Analysis Reconstruction (CAR) Team and SLCPD Crime Lab technicians responded to the scene.

The CAR Team is a multi-jurisdictional crash team that investigates crashes involving serious physical injuries or death. Members of the CAR Team receive specialized training in collision examination, speed analysis, vehicle dynamics, occupant kinematics, scene photography, surveying equipment, crash scene mapping, evidence collection and computer aided drawing programs.

The CAR Team includes law enforcement from the Salt Lake City Police Department and several other Salt Lake Valley law enforcement agencies.
