SLCPD SWAT Team Safely Arrests Aggravated Assault Suspect

SALT LAKE CITY — Tonight, a collaborative effort between the Salt Lake City Police Department’s SWAT team, patrol officers, crisis negotiators, and social workers resulted in the safe arrest of a man who barricaded himself inside an  apartment.

This investigation began on March 28, 2024, at 7:30 p.m. when SLC911 received a call about a man in crisis at 1925 W North Temple Street.

When officers arrived, they met with the victim, an adult female, and learned the suspect pulled out a knife and threatened to kill her.

The suspect is identified as 26-year-old Sheron Taylor-Sheppard.

Based on the preliminary information, the victim and the suspect know each other from a past relationship.

Officers tried to contact Sheron several times but didn’t get a response.

The on-scene incident commander requested the assistance of SLCPD SWAT and crisis negotiators. These highly trained teams provide patrol officers with additional resources.

At approximately 10:30 p.m. officers safely took Sheron into custody.

Officers took Sheron to the Salt Lake County Metro Jail and booked him for aggravated assault and violation of a protective order.

There are no reported injuries.

Two  photos from the scene are being released. Media may use these photos with credit to the Salt Lake City Police Department.

Charges are only allegations, and every arrested person is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.

The Salt Lake City Police Department is not the custodian of record for jail booking photos. Utah Code 17-22-30 mostly prohibits the release of jail booking photos. Generally, a jail booking photo can only be released by the custodian of record after a conviction or when law enforcement determines the person is a fugitive or an imminent threat to a person or public safety. In Salt Lake City, the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office is the custodian of record for jail booking photos.
