SLCPD Arrest Man with Suspended License Following Crash, Foot Chase in Glendale

SALT LAKE CITY — Officers with the Salt Lake City Police Department have arrested a 22-year-old man who crashed his truck into two parked cars and continued driving before he crashed through a fence and into a yard.

This investigation started at 5:47 a.m. on Sunday March 31, 2024, when SLC911 received information about a traffic crash near 1152 South 900 West.

Officers believe the driver, identified as Jose Igancio Ramirez-Morales, crashed into a parked Acura while driving southbound on 900 West. The crash pushed the Acura into a neighbor’s yard.

Ramirez-Morales turned around in the middle of the road and started driving northbound when he crashed into a parked SUV.

A neighbor heard the initial crash, got into his car, and started following Ramirez-Morales who continued driving northbound.

Ramirez-Morales crashed through a fence and landed in a neighbor’s yard a few feet from the second crash.

He is accused of getting out of the car and running away.

Officers arrived in the area and started looking for Ramirez-Morales.

Two officers spotted Ramirez-Morales in a yard and started chasing after him.

Ramirez-Morales refused to stop and resisted arrest. Officers safely took him into custody.

After arresting Ramirez-Morales, officers learned Ramirez-Morales’ had a suspended driver’s license. Officers also found evidence of alcohol inside his car.

The two parked cars were empty at the time of the crash.

Officers booked Ramirez-Morales into the Salt Lake County Metro Jail on charges of failing to stop at the command of a police officer, interfering with an arresting officer, failing to comply with the duties of a driver after a crash resulting in property damage, being a restricted driver – alcohol, operating a vehicle without the required interlock device, having an open container of alcohol in a vehicle, and driving on a suspended license.

Several photos from the scene are being released.

Charges are only allegations, and every arrested person is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.

The Salt Lake City Police Department is not the custodian of record for jail booking photos. Utah Code 17-22-30 mostly prohibits the release of jail booking photos. Generally, a jail booking photo can only be released by the custodian of record after a conviction or when law enforcement determines the person is a fugitive or an imminent threat to a person or public safety. In Salt Lake City, the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office is the custodian of record for jail booking photos.
